Church Overview

The Baptist Association of South Africa (BASA) is a national fellowship of Baptist churches united by a shared confession of faith in Jesus Christ. Founded in 1903 through the faithful ministry of Rev. John Rangiah among Indian indentured laborers in Natal, BASA has grown into a multi-ethnic, Spirit-led movement that transcends cultural and racial boundaries.

We exist to network, strengthen, and multiply Baptist churches across South Africa and beyond equipping believers, planting congregations, and proclaiming the Gospel with clarity and compassion. Rooted in the authority of Scripture, we affirm historic Baptist convictions: salvation by grace through faith, believer’s baptism by immersion, the priesthood of all believers, and the call to live as witnesses of Christ in a broken world.

Today, BASA stands as a testament to God’s faithfulness where former laborers became gospel carriers, and where diverse tribes now worship together as one family in Christ. Our mission remains urgent: to impact the nation for Christ through discipleship, evangelism, justice, and unwavering love.
